Upload Mac screenshots to S3, R2 or B2 automatically
If you already pay for object storage, you do not need a screenshot-sharing subscription on top of it. CapturePush is a free macOS menu bar app that takes a screenshot or screen recording, uploads it straight to your own S3-compatible bucket, and puts the public link on your clipboard.
How It Works
- Take a screenshot, a scrolling capture, or a GIF or MP4 recording from the menu bar or with a global hotkey.
- CapturePush uploads the file directly from your Mac to your bucket. There is no relay server in between.
- The file's URL is copied to your clipboard, ready to paste into chat, a ticket or a pull request.
Setting Up S3 Upload
Open Preferences → Upload, choose the S3 backend, and fill in:
- Endpoint — the provider's S3 hostname (defaults to
s3.amazonaws.com) - Region — for example
us-east-1 - Bucket — the bucket to upload into
- Key prefix — an optional folder, such as
screenshots/ - Access Key ID and Secret Access Key — ideally a key that can only write to this one bucket
- Custom base URL — optional; the public address your links should use, such as
https://cdn.example.com
The preferences pane shows a live URL preview, so you can see what your share links will look like before you take the first screenshot.
Provider Settings
| Provider | Endpoint | Region | Path-style URLs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon S3 | s3.amazonaws.com | Your bucket's region | Off |
| Cloudflare R2 | <account-id>.r2.cloudflarestorage.com | auto | Off |
| Backblaze B2 | s3.<region>.backblazeb2.com | Your bucket's region, e.g. us-west-004 | Off |
| MinIO (self-hosted) | Your MinIO hostname | Your configured region | On |
Making the Links Public
CapturePush uploads the object; whether the world can read it is up to your bucket. For links you can paste anywhere, either allow public reads on the bucket (or on the key prefix you upload to), or put a public domain or CDN in front of it and enter that address as the Custom base URL. With Cloudflare R2, for example, you would connect a custom domain to the bucket and use that domain as the base URL.
Choose What Gets Uploaded
- Everything: every screenshot and recording is uploaded and linked.
- Recordings Only: screenshots are saved locally, and only GIF and MP4 recordings are uploaded.
- Upload File...: send any file on your Mac to the same bucket from the menu bar and get a link back.
Your Keys Stay on Your Mac
Requests are signed locally with AWS Signature Version 4 and sent directly to your storage provider. There is no CapturePush account and no CapturePush cloud, so your credentials and your screenshots are never handed to a third party.
Prefer a plain web server to object storage? CapturePush can also upload over SSH to your own server.
